Welsh planning services are strained, says auditor’s report

Planning officer capacity in Wales is stretched and skills are decreasing in key areas, according to a report by the country’s independent spending watchdog.

The number of trainees entering the profession has also fallen in recent years, which has raised concerned over the long-term sustainability of services.

Adrian Crompton, the Auditor General for Wales, who issued the report today (6 June), said this is a result of the planning service having seen its budget cut by 50 per cent over the past 10 years.
