Two new Belfast masterplans unveiled

Words: Roger Milne

Two blueprints for separate areas of Belfast were published this week by communities secretary Paul Givan.

One covers the Boucher Road and Andersonstown Road areas of south and west Belfast while the other focuses on the Sailortown area, located north of Belfast city centre adjacent to City Quays.

This latter strategy takes account of the area’s key waterfront position, and creates links between Greater Clarendon, the city centre and the Laganside area, as well as encouraging comprehensive rather than piecemeal development which complements the new Ulster University campus.

The former masterplan proposes a series of 12 measures designed to improve the environment, create new transport links, support business and establish an attractive location for future development and investment.
