The new Stormont administration has begun consulting on its programme for government, after politicians agreed a set of outcomes supported by some 42 indicators.

The draft framework highlights the need to improve transport connectivity, air quality, the supply of suitable housing and the use of public transport.

One key outcome centres on living and working sustainably and protecting the environment. This will require working with businesses to reduce energy and increasing access to “clean, high quality, green spaces”.

In respect of housing, the focus will be on “improving the supply of social housing for those in greatest need and tackling housing unfitness”.

The programme includes moves to optimise the performance of a number of key transport corridors. These are listed as:

  • A5 Londonderry – Aughnacloy;

  • M2/A6 Belfast – Londonderry;

  • A8/A1 Larne - Newry;

  • M1/A4 Belfast – Enniskillen; and

  • A26/A2 Londonderry - Belfast.
