SoS powers to make neighbouring councils create joint plans start in January

Regulations giving the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government the power to direct neighbouring local authorities to create a joint development have been laid before Parliament.

The legislation makes amendments to the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations following changes introduced in the Neighbourhood Planning Act 2017.

The secretary of state will be able to “direct the area and subject matter of the document that is to be jointly prepared, and the timetable for its production”, says an explanatory memorandum.
