A Scottish developer refused permission for a major student accommodation project on Belfast’s Golden Mile has returned with a revised proposal.

Rojem Properties’ original plan for a scheme providing 267 en suite study bedrooms on a site beside Lavery’s bar at Bradbury Place was given the thumbs down by the city council two years ago

Last year the company scaled the scheme back to just 185 rooms. Now the developer has drawn up a project with 156 bedrooms in a mixed five-storey and six-storey development that would require the demolition of existing properties on the site. The proposal also includes retail units at ground level.

The original project was rejected partly because of its impact on nearby listed buildings.
