RTPI Scotland ‘concerned’ about local authority resourcing

Gross expenditure on planning departments in Scotland has been cut by 42 per cent in real terms since 2009, according to RTPI Scotland, leaving them in a ‘precarious position’.

Resourcing the Planning Service: Key Trends and Findings 2021 states that the cuts have left the planning service “one of the most severely affected of all local government services in terms of budgets”.Also, 32 per cent of planning department staff have been cut since 2009.Other findings set out in the report:Planning application fees do not cover the costs of processing planning applications........
