RTPI research awards now open for entries

Words: Laura Edgar

The RTPI Awards for Research Excellence are now open for entries of exemplary planning research from all RTPI-accredited planning schools.

Formerly the RTPI Education and Lifelong Learning Awards, the awards have been refreshed. There is a renewed focus on research excellence that highlights the implications of academic research for policy and practice and to promote planning research.

President of the RTPI, Janet Askew, said: “These exciting awards will celebrate high-quality, spatial planning research which has insight and impact. With new and revised categories, our awards this year will help to raise the profile of academic research, which plays such a critical role in shaping planning policy and practice.”

The four categories for the awards are:

• Excellence in Spatial Planning Research: Academic Award;

• Excellence in Spatial Planning Research: Early Career Researcher Award;

• Excellence in Spatial Planning Research: Student Award; and

• Excellence in Spatial Planning Research: Wider Engagement Award.

Mike Harris, RTPI deputy head of policy and research and awards organiser, said: “We want the RTPI Awards for Research Excellence to recognise and promote the best research from accredited planning schools to a wider audience of policymakers and practitioners – whether the research is from established academics, researchers just starting out on their careers, or students.”

Entries for the awards close on 31 May, 2015.
