RTPI: Permitted development rights for fracking ‘abuse the system’

Designating exploratory drilling for shale gas as a new form of permitted development would be an ‘abuse’ of the planning system.

This is what the RTPI has said in response to a government consultation on such a move. It also considered whether such development should be decided under the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) regime.The institute warns that the scale and complexity of exploratory drilling “entirely dwarfs” development that currently falls under permitted development rights.........
