RTPI members warned

A consultant member was found to be in breach of the Code of Professional Conduct owing to a failure to provide written terms of engagement and to exercise due care with regard to information provided in a planning application.

The member received a warning about their future conduct.

Confusion sometimes arises when a consultant is asked to provide advice or to assist another practice in advising their client. In such situations members must ask themselves who their client is to ensure that the necessary terms of engagement have been agreed.

Another consultant member, Mr Andrew Vaughan-Harries, has been found to be in breach of the code for incurring fees additional to those previously agreed, for failing to act with competence and integrity in terms of work carried out, and in respect of the tone of language used in client correspondence, and for withdrawing a client’s application without authority.

The member was warned about his future conduct.
