The RTPI has joined a new international coalition that aims to develop the first set of globally recognised ethics standards for built environment and property-related professional organisations.

The International Ethics Standards Coalition currently consists of 90 member organisations that will work together to align ethics principles through a new international standard. Members come from a wide range of countries, including China, Brazil and India.

Rosslyn Stuart, RTPI’s director of professional standards, said: “The RTPI has its own robust standards and code of conduct and is committed to working with our fellow global professionals to develop common principles. I strongly believe establishing this important standard across the entire supply chain will enhance transparency, consistency and trust in the services being offered by professionals in the global and interconnected marketplace."

Earlier this year, the RTPI published guidance on professional ethics, covering ethics challenges, conflicts of interest, equality and diversity and professional competency.

Ethics is also one of the competencies required of practitioners seeking chartered membership of the RTPI.

All members are required to adhere to its five core principles, including due care and diligence.
