RTPI: Is planning reform heading in the right or wrong direction?

Words: Laura Edgar

The RTPI is seeking the views of its members on the impact of recent planning reforms to the UK's planning systems and on their work.

Planning reform is taking place across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Ireland, with different approaches being taken and varied proposals taken forward.

At last week’s RTPI Planning Convention, the institute’s president Phil Williams urged politicians to value the role of planners and planning.

The survey and its results aim to move the debate forward and will be used to shape the RTPI’s work. The deadline for responses is 31 July, 2016.

The institute will also put forward further evidence in the summer that planning is critical to better places, better growth, better housing and better communities.

Additionally, the RTPI is embarking on a new programme entitled ‘Better Planning’ to provide advice and intelligence to members and others on how planning is part of the solution to major social, economic and environmental challenges.

Please contact the RTPI for further comment or with any questions: research@rtpi.org.uk
