RTPI Cymru expresses concerns over plans to merge councils

Proposals by the Welsh Government to merge the country’s 22 councils to as few as 10 would not solve the financial and service pressures that local authorities are currently experiencing, RTPI Cymru has said.

The institute instead wants alternative mechanisms to be found to put more resources into councils, in particular their planning services, following a number of cuts in recent years.This is in response to a consultation by the Welsh Government on its merger plan, published in March.Under the latest plans the following mergers would take place:Anglesey and Gwynedd;Conwy and Denbighshire........
