RTPI: Council housebuilding hits its highest rate since 1990

Local authorities in England created at least 9,000 homes in 2017/18, according to an RTPI study.

Of these, 42 per cent were affordable and 23 per cent are social homes.

The figure is based on an online survey to which 83 councils responded.

Applying the 9,000 homes from 83 councils to across England, the study estimates that English authorities delivered at least 13,000 new homes in 2017/18. This is the highest number since 1990, when councils delivered 14,020 homes, according .....Sign Up or Login to read full article
