Revised Casement Stadium project unveiled for Belfast

Fresh proposals for a controversial stadium at Casement Park, west Belfast, have been unveiled by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
The new stadium has a proposed capacity of 34,500 – down by 3,500 on original plans.
The GAA said it was aiming to work within the original budget of £76 million and the stadium should open by 2019, in time for the following year’s Ulster finals.
The new scheme, designed by award-winning architect’s Populous, plans to transform the existing facility with an iconic new stadium bowl.
The mixed-use facility proposes a range of community facilities.
The proposal also sets out plans for sustainable travel options with dedicated traffic and travel operations, including supporter coach travel and an off-site park-and-ride facility.
Planning permission for the previous proposals was quashed following a legal challenge by local residents.
