Report: NI housebuilding activity goes up a gear

The number of new homes under construction across Northern Ireland was up by more than 25 per cent towards the end of last year, suggest latest official figures.

There were 1,760 new home starts between October and December 2016, according to the most recent quarterly Housing Bulletin, just published by the Department for Communities. This is an increase of 27 per cent on the same quarter in 2015 (1,381).

The total number of new dwelling completions for the period was 1,750, an increase of 10 per cent on the same quarter in 2015.

The figures suggested that in 2015/16, there were a total of 1,568 new social housing dwelling starts and 1,209 new social housing dwelling completions.
