Reaction: Proposed zonal system is ‘rather simplistic’, says RTPI

The RTPI has welcomed the ‘sensible’ proposal to make the role of chief planner a statutory role in local authorities, but has warned that plans for a zonal system are ‘rather simplistic’.

Chief executive Victoria Hills also welcomed the commitments to invest in digital planning and that planners and the planning system are “vital” to ensure that communities are healthy and places where people can thrive. Published today (6 August) by housing secretary Robert Jenrick, Planning for the Future promises that local communities will be consulted from the beginning of the planning........
