Prime minister pressed to reverse new PDRs

Built environment professionals, including the RTPI, have urged Prime Minister Boris Johnson to reverse controversial new regulations that will see commercial buildings converted into homes without going through the full planning process.

Confirmed yesterday (31 March), the legislation introduces a new permitted development right (PDR) that allows the change of use from commercial, business and service uses (class E) to residential use (C3) in England.The government intends for the PDRs to “help support the creation of much-needed homes while also giving high streets a new lease of life – removing eyesores, transforming unused........
