Plans for two logistics warehouses on the site of a former factory at the Wingates Industrial Estate have been lodged with Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council.

Full planning permission is being sought for two separate units with a combined gross external area of 33,678 square metres at Great Bank Road.

The unit planned for the west of the site will include a main warehouse and office space for an international logistics firm.

The second unit on the east of the site would comprise a main warehouse and a three-storey office building.

An outline application would see a further industrial unit of 5,000 square metres in size delivered, or additional car parking spaces.

The Manchester office of planning consultancy Lichfields submitted the hybrid application on behalf of Panattoni UK Developments.

Matt Grant, senior planner at Lichfields, said the project has the potential to create at least 600 jobs for the area.

“Approval of this scheme will deliver significant economic benefits and job creation for Bolton, and this economic and social benefit should be given substantial weight in considering the proposals.”

The site’s most recent use was for the Bernstein’s Kitchen Factory, which closed over 10 years ago. The buildings were demolished in 2011.
