Planning 'relegated' in local authority structure

A survey conducted by the RTPI has suggested that planning is absent from the top table in 83 per cent of councils across the UK.

In those councils, the planning function has been "relegated" two or three tiers down from the chief executive. The institute believes that this dilutes the profession’s importance as a strategic corporate function helplng councils to tackle social, economic and environmental challenges.
