Only half of housing built near train stations, finds report

The draft National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) must focus on transport-oriented housing developments, says the RTPI as it publishes a report that suggests only 50 per cent of new housing in England is built within 2km of a train station.

The institute’s Location of Development study analyses the location of permissions for more than 220,000 new homes in the 12 fastest growing city regions in England between 2012 and 2017.These include Brighton, Cambridge, Leeds and Newcastle.The study has been divided into two rounds – 2012 to 2015 and 2015 to 2017.
