NI Rural development funding allocations announced

Rural development minister Michelle O’Neill has announced the ‘Priority 6’ budget allocations for the council areas under Northern Ireland's new Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. Nearly £70 million funding is involved.

The money is designed to promote social inclusion, poverty reduction and economic development in rural areas which will focus on supporting: business development, diversification and basic services. The funding will be administered by newly formed Local Action Groups (LAG).

O’Neill said: "Spread across 10 geographical areas and amounting to almost £70million, this funding will foster local development in rural areas by supporting business development, basic services, the renewal of villages and activities aimed at the restoration and upgrading of the cultural and natural heritage of rural areas and to promote the sustainability of rural areas."
