Plans for what would be Northern Ireland’s largest wind farm have been proposed for a site in the Sperrin mountains near Draperstown in County Londonderry.

Power company SSE Renewables wants to develop a 36-turbine project capable of generating some 115 megawatts of electricity.

The scheme is known as the Doraville Wind Farm.

Twenty-five of the turbines would have a maximum height of 140 metres, with the other 11 having a maximum height of 126.5 metres.

It is expected that the wind farm would connect to the grid at the Magherafelt substation.

Meanwhile, a plan to erect seven large wind turbines at Barr Cregg near Claudy in County Londonderry has been refused by Derry City and Strabane District Council. The unsuccessful application was made by the renewable energy firm RES.
