Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks extend

The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks have been extended by 188 square miles.

The boundaries of the parks now go down either side of the M6 motorway, creating a band of protected land across North West England.

The Yorkshire Dales has grown in size by 24 per cent and the Lake District by 3 per cent.

The expansions, announced in October, aims to boost rural tourism.


Homes for rent launched in Bracknell

A homes for rent development has been launched in Bracknell, the first of its kind in the town. PLATFORM_, an operator of homes for private rent and backed by real estate investment and development company Westrock, opened the 87-apartment building in Bracknell at the end of July.

It is located above the town’s train station.

The development includes a range of onsite amenities, such as a residents’ lounge, rooftop terrace, car and bicycle parking and an onsite concierge.


Price gap between London and the rest of the country closes

The gap between property prices in England and Wales and London closed significantly in the three months to May 2016, according to new data released by the Land Registry in conjunction with the Office of National Statistics.

London Central Portfolio, a residential property advisor, said this indicates that the average price of property in England and Wales reached £221, 832 in May, with the average in Greater London standing at £472,163.

This compares to previously released Land Registry data from March, when property in London was three times more expensive than the rest of the country.

Jesse Norman appointed construction minister

Hereford MP Jesse Norman has been confirmed as the new minister industry and energy at the Department for Business, Energy and Indistrial Strategy.

His responsibilities include industrial policy, supporting the minister climate change and industry and energy policy, supporting the minister energy and intellectual property.
