Newport LDP makes the grade

Words: Roger Milne

Newport City Council’s Local Development Plan (LDP) has been confirmed as sound by an independent planning inspector and is due to go before full council for formal adoption next month.

The council has accepted a number of modifications to its original land use strategy including changing the Newport Retail Park boundary to cover the whole park, removing some of some housing sites because of constraints and adjusting affordable housing requirements to reflect the realities of the local housing market.

The inspector has approved the LDP’s growth strategy and allocations for such things as housing and employment. He has also backed the allocation of land at Hartridge Road Farm for a resident gypsy and traveller site.

The LDP will shape planning policy and decisions for the city until 2026.
