The number of new home starts in Northern Ireland has increased by 10 per cent since last year, according to statistics compiled by the Department for Social Development.

Its latest housing bulletin, just published, said foundations had been laid for 1,828 new homes during the April-June quarter, up 10 per cent on the same period last year.

However, the number of homes completed in the same quarter was 1,295 - a fall of 11 per cent on the same quarter in 2014.

During 2014/15, there were a total of 2,013 new social housing starts and some 1,658 social housing completions.
