Edinburgh City Council’s flagship project, the £170 million regeneration of the former Fountainbridge brewery site, clocked up a key milestone this week.

The tender window closed (29 November) for bids from prospective development partners and a shortlist will be drawn up.

The city council hopes to have a partner in place by next summer with construction under way in spring 2021.

Once completed, the redevelopment will transform three hectares of canal side brownfield land into more than 400 new homes, 177 of which would be affordable. The development will also include a 10,000-square metre office building to attract technology companies, along with 4,500 square metres of shops, bars and restaurants.

The site is owned by the city council.
