May calls for design quality regulations to be mandatory

Outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May has called for new design standards to ensure that homes are of a high-quality, more social housing, and for tenants to have more rights.

She noted that more homes are now being built, with delivery in Manchester up by 12 per cent, up by 43 per cent in Nottingham, and up by 80 per cent in Birmingham. The number of affordable housing starts has also increased to nearly 54,000 this year, she added.

But, speaking at the Chartered Institute of Housing conference in Manchester today (26 June), May warned against complacency.
