A multimillion-pound luxury golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus could be destined for the capital, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The newspaper has reported that the golf legend has written to owner Belfast City Council about a proposal to build a course at the Giant's Park site on the North Foreshore.

Plans were launched for the area’s redevelopment three years ago. It is believed the golf course is one of four proposals put to the council for redevelopment of the 80-hectare site.

Belfast City Council said: "We are considering a number of development proposals in relation to Giant's Park and information relating to them remains confidential."

Earlier this year the council’s director of property and projects Gerry Millar revealed that four proposals had been forwarded for the land, but the details have not been disclosed.

Nicklaus has designed hundreds of golf courses around the world including two across the border in the Irish Republic.
