Lovell signs £45m regeneration programme in Hatfield

Hatfield town centre

Housing developer Lovell has signed a development agreement with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) to deliver a £45 million regeneration programme to transform the heart of south Hatfield in Hertfordshire.

The High View neighbourhood centre is set to be redeveloped to bring affordable housing and properties.

The redevelopment of the local shopping centre and the nearby Hollyfield former garage site will create a new replacement retail space, and 150 new homes for local residents.

Councillor Duncan Bell, executive member for resources, said: “By redeveloping homes and business spaces, and improving accessibility to other parts of Hatfield, we will breathe new life into the area.”

The first phase of the scheme is expected to start in summer 2019, and is expected to take five years to complete pending planning approval, which Lovell aims to submit at the of 2018.

Lovell will invest in the delivery of job and training opportunities locally, including creating around eight apprenticeships and offering construction courses for residents. The company will give a £50,000 community grant to the council.

Residents have been invited to attend a public exhibition of the current proposals for the development, which are being held at various centres in Hatfield on 7,18 and 23 August.
