Detailed proposals for a mixed-use neighbourhood of nearly 940 new homes for the waterfront at Leith have been submitted to Edinburgh City Council.

The Western Harbour project is a joint venture from Forth Ports Ltd and Rettie and Co.

The development involves shops, commercial space and a health centre. A new primary school is being brought forward separately by the council.

The scheme also includes proposals for one of the largest new parks in the city for over 100 years. This will extend over 4.7 hectares.

Designed by Rankin Fraser, the park will form the heart of the new community, offering play space, large open meadows, varied woodland, a community growing space and an outdoor classroom for the adjacent primary school.

The location for this new neighbourhood is empty reclaimed land in the Port of Leith.
