A County Tyrone-based developer has submitted an application for a student housing scheme earmarked for central Belfast.

This latest proposal by McAleer and Rushe is a planning application for a 15-storey block between Great Victoria Street and the Dublin Road.

The £14 million Little Victoria Street project would involve demolishing the existing buildings on the site to provide 265 new units.

Student accommodation in the city centre has been increasing rapidly since Ulster University announced proposals to relocate its Jordanstown campus to York Street.

The developer has just finished a £70 million project for Queen's University, which has provided 1,200 student rooms in two major new city centre builds.
