Lack of planning resources puts new Scottish infrastructure at risk

RTPI Scotland has warned that large-scale infrastructure projects in Scotland are at risk if the planning system is not adequately resourced.

The institute’s director for Scotland Craig McLaren told a Scottish Parliament’s Economy, Energy, Jobs and Fair Work Committee that there was a 25 per cent decrease in planning staff between 2009 and 2017.

He also said there had been a 40 per cent cut in real terms in planning service budgets.
