Jenrick launches design guide with 'clout’

Housing secretary Robert Jenrick has launched a building design guide that will replace ‘outdated guidance and unenforceable design ideas’, as the government looks to deliver homes families can be ‘proud to call their own’.

The guide will introduce a national standard for local authorities to adhere to. They will also have the option to design their own guides to reflect local needs.

An emphasis will be placed on tree-lined streets and green infrastructure, explained Jenrick. The design guide would have “genuine clout” and would be a material consideration in planning applications and appeals.
