A pipeline setting out £500 billion of infrastructure investment has been published by the government.

The pipeline, published by government agency the Infrastructure and Projects Authority, includes major projects such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel, the rollout of smart meters, and upgrading the A14. It aims to provide a single source of data for both government and the private sector and give greater certainty for investors and suppliers.

The pipeline covers around 720 projects across transport, housing and digital, with 20 schemes added since March 2016 including the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway.

The pipeline’s publication follows chancellor Philip Hammond’s announcement in the autumn statement of a £23 billion National Productivity Investment Fund, which aims to make passenger journeys quicker and more reliable, improve broadband connections, and build more homes.
