Film and TV production company Bad Wolf is currently looking at a number of sites in South Wales for a major new 18,580 square metre studio facility.

This move has come as existing studio space, including Bay Studios near Swansea, Pinewood at Wentloog on the outskirts of Cardiff and the smaller Dragon International Film Studios at Llanilid, are now virtually at capacity with a pipeline of film projects stretching out over the next five years.

Property consultancy JLL is advising Bad Wolf - which is being supported by the Welsh Government - on its studio search.

It is focusing on available large former industrial units - with the necessary height for filming - at a number of sites across South East Wales, including locations in Bridgend and Chepstow.

The studios will need to have close access to the M4, but also be near to Cardiff and its hotels, which will be required to accommodate production crews.

It is understood that Bad Wolf has investigated a new studio build option, including in Cardiff Bay.

Currently, the Welsh Government is stepping up its support to attract more international drama productions to Wales - to create a flow of projects which would have a greater impact on the creative industries supply chain in Wales.
