Cherwell District Council has approved plans for an ‘innovation community’ at Bicester Gateway that seeks to allow people to mix and balance work with their social and home lives.

Bloombridge LLP’s plans feature 273 apartments to rent or buy, 30 per cent of which have been designated as affordable – and 4,400 square metres of office and R&D space.

There will also be a mixed-use co-working hub 800 square metres in size, an ancillary gym, approximately 180 square metres of café space, a multistorey car park, and a large area of parkland amenity space.

The scheme site is located on the southern edge of Bicester, opposite the Park & Ride, with Oxford and the M40 easily accessible. Amenities in the area include supermarkets, two train stations and two new schools.

Tom Darwall-Smith of Maddox Planning said: “Flexible living and working environments, as well as employers locating close to employees to avoid long-distance commuting, is a growing market and is likely to further accelerate as a result of Covid-19. This is also highly sustainable and will help to promote healthy lifestyles.”
