Edinburgh’s first new concert hall for a century was granted planning permission this week for a location in the World Heritage area of the city centre.

The scheme – called the Dunard Centre – is set to be created between St Andrew Square and the new St James Quarter on the edge of the New Town. The site is flanked by listed buildings and is in a conservation area. The redesigned venue will provide a 1,000-seater auditorium for live music performances and a new home for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Edinburgh International Festival........
