Green light for major Bangor regeneration scheme

Words: Roger Milne

Social development minister Mervyn Storey has welcomed the go-ahead for a major regeneration scheme in a prominent position overlooking the marina at Queen’s Parade in Bangor.

The proposals will see a derelict and predominantly vacant site transformed into a new heart for the resort town providing some 25,000 square metres of development including 80 new homes, mainly flats.

The final scheme includes a cultural, leisure and arts hub and theatre in the town centre, as well as shops, restaurants, offices and hotels.

Also involved is a multi-storey car park for 351 vehicles, new accesses at King Street and Southwell Road; and the creation of new open shared space along Marine Gardens.

Storey insisted: “This proposal will act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of Bangor town centre.”
