Go-ahead for multimillion-pound golf resort at Hillsborough

Words: Roger Milne

A £60 million golf resort at Hillsborough has been given the go-ahead just days after proposals for a £16 million visitor centre were also approved.

The resort project, first proposed in 2003 by developer Wilmar Ltd, involves the development of a championship standard parkland golf course, a luxury hotel and holiday flats.

In a separate move permission was granted for new visitor and estate facilities including restoration of existing stable yard and historic gardens at Hillsborough Castle.

The Walled Garden will be restored and a section of the grounds known as the Lost Garden, which had become overgrown and difficult to access, will also be returned to its former glory.
