Garden communities under development are ‘largely unsuitable’ for active travel

New garden villages and towns are at risk of being dependent on cars rather than being geared towards walking, cycling and public transport, says pressure group Transport for New Homes. 

Walking and cycling – and the space to do so – has been brought to the fore partly as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the generation of garden communities being planned and developed now, will “be largely unsuitable” for walking and cycling.This is because of their remote location, their layout and their lack of safe routes in and out of the estate, according to Transport for New Homes’s........
