Eco-town plans submitted

Bicester eco town

Plans for up to 2,600 homes in an ‘eco-town’ at Bicester in Oxfordshire have been submitted.

A2 Dominion’s NW Bicester scheme on 382 acres north of Lords Lane includes the zero-carbon homes, flats for the elderly with supporting facilities, a 25-acre country park, a village green, sports fields and a community farm.

The initial outline planning application, submitted to Cherwell District Council, also includes 4,700 square metres of commercial/business space, 2,500 sq m of community space, 1,250 sq m of retail and leisure space, as well as a primary school with playing fields.

NW Bicester project director Steve Hornblow said that two further applications would be submitted in the coming weeks to provide infrastructure, employment opportunities and other community amenities.

“NW Bicester will showcase what the future can look like by enabling people to live healthy, affordable lives in high-quality homes that use resources wisely and enhance their natural environment,” said Hornblow. “Truly integrated with the existing town, NW Bicester will become a destination of choice for those looking to lead a sustainable lifestyle without compromising the needs of future generations.”

The first phase of the NW Bicester eco-town, the Exemplar phase (pictured), will see 393 zero-carbon homes built, the first 93 of which are now under construction.
