Eden District Council has announced plans to invest in its planning and development management function and improve its online portal.

Drawing support from a recent review by the Local Government Association (LGA), the council has identified where it believes it can “enhance” its service.

The council plans to recruit for a person to provide additional pre-application advice and support for major developments as it seeks to “produce a higher quality of submitted planning applications more attuned to councils policies”.

The online portal will also be improved so that applications can be more efficiently processed.

The council is proposing to bring in specialist support for development management, planning policy and environmental sustainability work.

The proposals are part of a six-figure investment that will be reviewed by the council's executive committee tonight.
