County councils should manage strategic planning, says report

The government should consider how county authorities could take a 'more material role' in the strategic and spatial planning process, according to a report published today (5 March).
This is line with the final report by the Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission, published in February.Under policy proposition 18 in Living with Beauty, the commission recommends that investigations should take place into whether in some cases, county councils can be encouraged to produce spatial development strategies (without duplication of districts) as unitary authorities are........
