A 27-storey tower block that would dwarf the capital’s current skyline has been recommended for approval by the Cardiff City Council officials.

The building is part of a three-block, mixed-use scheme earmarked for a city centre site near Callaghan Square.

Part of the scheme already has outline planning permission. Developer JR Smart is proposing a mix of office and retail space as well as proposals for a 212-bedroom hotel.
JR Smart exchanged contracts with the Welsh Government to acquire the site over two years ago, with the location zoned under city planning policy for office, hotel and residential uses.

The same developer is also behind Cardiff's Capital Quarter development, which would provide more than 92,900 square metres of office floorspace, hotel development, student accommodation and education space in phases.
