Campaigners throw down legal gauntlet on permitted development

Campaigners are threatening legal action against the government unless it suspends new permitted development rights (PDR) that come into force next week.

Under the new PDRs, unveiled in July, full planning applications will not be required to demolish and rebuild unused buildings as homes and for commercial properties to be “repurposed”.

Residents will also be able to pursue a fast-track approval process to add up to two extra floors to their homes without having to get full planning permission.
