Call for entries to George Pepler award

Words: Huw Morris

The RTPI is calling for entries to the George Pepler International Award 2016.

The award is a £2,000 bursary funding a planner’s travel and study into a particular aspect of spatial planning, either in the UK or internationally.

The award has been offered biennially for more than 40 years to commemorate Sir George Pepler, one of the RTPI’s founders, who wanted to “encourage young people of all nationalities who have a desire to serve their fellow human beings through the medium of town and country planning”.

RTPI president Phil Williams said: “This is an exciting opportunity for someone relatively new to the planning profession to see first hand how the planning system is used to deliver jobs, houses and great places in another country. Many challenges that planners face are similar wherever they are.”
Previous winners have carried out study trips to New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Helsinki and New York.
