Budget 2020 reaction: Infrastructure investment at odds with decarbonisation

Built environment professionals have welcomed Rishi Sunak's Budget speech and its promise of infrastructure investments, calling it a ‘credible’ start to the ‘levelling up’ agenda – but many have expressed environmental concerns.
Delivering his first Budget as chancellor and the first for this Conservative government, Sunak committed money to roads, rail, flood resilience, combined authorities and digital connectivity, all of which form part of the government’s plans to “level up” the country.“If the country needs it,” said Sunak, “we will build it.”Pledges include £27 billion for the second Road Investment........
