Budget 2018: £1.5bn to transform high streets

The chancellor cuts high-street bills by a third as he launches a plan to help them adapt in the face of growing online consumerism.

The 2018 Budget will see bills cut by one-third for retail properties with a rateable value below £51,000 for two years from April 2019. Philip Hammond claims this will benefit up to 90 per cent of retail properties.

Public lavatories will benefit from 100 per cent business rates relief in an attempt to keep them open, while spaces occupied by local newspapers in 2019/20 will receiv.....Sign Up or Login to read full article
