The new Belfast City Council has outlined its proposals for keeping communities informed on all planning developments in the capital.

The council’s draft Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how and when it will engage with the community in both the preparation of planning policy and decisions on planning applications.

It commits to “an early and informed opportunity” to express views on the development of areas that will be considered before decisions are made.

The draft SCI covers how the planning authority will engage with the community in relation to the development of the local development plan (LDP) and at the pre-application stage for planning applications.

The SCI also covers the role of the community during the application process at planning committee stage and after a planning decision has been made.

In addition the document considers community involvement in relation to planning enforcement, conservation area designation and in the preparation of simplified planning zones.
