Tyre manufacturer Michelin has announced proposals to turn its huge Ballymena site into an enterprise park following a landmark agreement with Silverwood Business Park Limited.

The Raceview Road facility has been sold to the developer, which already owns a business park in Craigavon. Silverwood is planning what it describes as “a high-end enterprise park” made up of manufacturing, office and warehouse space.

As part of the deal, 4.5 hectares of the site will be given to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, which will use the location to bolster the area’s bid to host a so-called Heathrow logistics hub.

The council is also keen to develop a centre for manufacturing excellence.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Paul Reid, said: “This deal is great news for Ballymena and Mid and East Antrim, and we would like to thank Michelin for how this project has been handled.”
